Half Dome from Glacier Point Really love this, with the rain shafts behind the dome.

Mike, lovely photos, especially the blending and contrasting. In the first 2 photos, the frothy trees lessen the starkness of the Dome. The natural earth tones blend and complement each other. In the second of the Dome photos, the colors are again earth tones, but darker shades, set off by the purity of the snow. And both are complemented by the stillness and color variation of the water. Beautiful - I'm making notes in my coloring notebook on these color combinations!
daveb 's photos of the Tetons also incorporate these contrasting yet complimentary textures.
In your third photo, the mist over the water accents the peacefulness and serenity to the scene. It's as if someone wandered into a very private area reserved only for the nature reverents.
The Glacier Point views are also stunning, especially the clouds and rain as Rebecca observed and the color variations from the dappled sun on the Dome. But the sunset - it's beyond description.
The last photo will be viewed by me repeatedly over the next few days as the temps climb up into the 90s. It's definitely a cooling photo!
I've never seen a landscape photo anywhere on this site that didn't take my breath away, capture my imagination, and tempt me to set aside whatever work needs to be done, get out the pencils and start experimenting to create the magnificent texture and color combinations I see in the posted photos on this forum. This is what I call true "color" therapy for me!

I want to hike with Mike! Beautiful photography! Unfortunately my hiking days are pretty much over. All of those photos are within a few minutes of roads/parking lots etc.

Hard to get an iconic shot without a helicopter here, but a frozen day at Eagle Rock, Effigy Mounds National Monument.

@walkingwest, stunning photos! The winter scene is an absolute beauty of composition - the graceful branches of the tree against the softened linear lines of the background. And the second is as well - was the sun actually focused on the foreground or did you use some special technique to create that effect? It's an incredibly effective way of encompassing an area of similar stepped and rocky promontories while focusing on the prominent element. Love that golden effect - it conveys so readily the warmth of a sunrise.
I've got to restrain myself from looking at all these photos. I'm not getting any work done b/c of the time I'm spending here!

Thanks for the compliments autumnmist, but these are monkey-on-a-typewriter pictures. I only carry a Sony Cybershot, as I am a huge klutz and I would likely have destroyed anything more expensive long ago (as the environment or I have destroyed 3 Cybershots). I tend to find a subject and shoot 10-20 shots around it, framing left, right, up, down. I also learned that predawn and dusk seem to get be the best light for the camera.

The Mesquite Sand Dunes are really quite lovely, gracefully sculpted and captured beautifully in your photo. They're really incredible formations.

Was procrastinating this morning and realized that this thread was missing some RMNP. Had some good windless mornings for reflections. Nymph Lake: (My wife at) Dream Lake:
Emerald Lake: G em Lake from a few year back:
