reuben, are you an artist? mathematician? engineer? I understand that abstraction issue - it's an intriguing photo for that kind of personal interpretation.

You're pretty darn close. I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, but have made most of my living as a software engineer, with various forays into other types of engineering over the years.
And yet I have a somewhat artistic side, which I try to find and let loose now and then. It doesn't get enough exercise, but I try.

autumnmist , it's a detail of one of the geothermal features, so it is, in fact, "a superheated, mineral laden watery area". One of the main ideas behind that image is that it's abstract with no obvious sense of scale. It's all up to the viewer to decide what it is and how big it is. Almost looks like one of the photos of the surface of Pluto

There's a beauty in some aspects of math and engineering, as well as physics. I think it's a difference between discovering the innate qualities and relationships of math vs. creating those for oneself through art, but I wouldn't argue that art is separate from math and engineering. I'm forever grateful to Steve for his announcement on the gardening forum last year of Pi day. One of the links he posted has given me endless hours of pleasure, thinking how a Pi progression has been and can be adapted to the art of Knot Gardens. thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/visualising-the-infinite-data-of-pie. See: Progression of the first 10,000 digits of π. Some of the Knot Gardens at Villandry are variations of this configuration.

Sorry, I posted up four photos and THEN read the bp2go's instructions to post one per post. Had a little trouble trying to edit from my iPhone. Anyway... Here is a photo of Yellowstone Lake looking at Dot Island.

Another perspective of the Tetons during August. Wow--gorgeous photo. I find that shots like this, with a large number of different things and distances in the shot, are surprisingly difficult to compose effectively. Nice work.

It's one of the most original photos of the Tetons I recall seeing. Several great photos there, Dave B.

I love the photos of the driftwood - it's as if it was arranged specifically to create a dramatic sculpture. And as a rock lover, I love the photo of the multi-colored rocks (mentally salivating at having such beauties in my collection but knowing it's not appropriate to even consider).

Not one of the Yosemite Icons", but one of my favorite high country mountain, "Mammoth Peak". Taken a few weeks ago.
