Had a lovely overnight trip in Cascade, Idaho doing some light trail work for the Boy Scout camp up there. In a couple weeks, troops from around the Treasure Valley will descend upon this camp for a weekend of competition and fun. Several adult leaders came up to do some major log clearing. There were so many downed trees from the winter. My girls and I came along for a short camping trip and I had planned to do some light hiking. I got asked to take some loppers with me to cut branches and overgrowth from the trails. I was happy to be of service and headed out around 9:30 with my dog Patrick.
It was an amazingly beautiful day! 60 degrees and breezy.
The camp has named most of the trails and they are open to the public. The Boy Scout Outback camp is located just past the RV park in Trinity Pines Camp and Conference center. They, and the camp, have several day hiking trails. I started out at the parking lot at Trinity Pines and headed up the Challenge course trail. It's more of a road, but only service vehicles are allowed.
At the fork in the road, I turned left and headed up Boundary Trail. At the top of the trail, several off road trails lead off. All together I hiked and cleared Deer Trail, Pine Trail, and Ridge Trail. I hiked probably a total of 3-4 miles, but I wasn't counting or keeping track. I was just enjoying myself.
At one point, the trail got pretty difficult to follow. They are in the process of putting up signs to help, but I had to stop and consult the map one of the leaders made, have a snack, and let my companion rest!
I think the thing I liked most about this particular set of trails (there are actually several more than the ones I went on), is that it's pretty hard to get lost. You get to see the really cool Scout camp and all their cool stations for the kids. I didn't see any deer because I had Patrick with me, but I did see deer scat. I saw rabbit tracks. I did, however, see a white tailed fox. The trillium has bloomed in some spots. It was peaceful and I thoroughly enjoyed my day of hiking and helping!
