Guess the title says it, but I'm gonna brag on my son a bit. This past weekend saw him turn 16, and I'm quite pleased with the man he is becoming in many ways.
He and I were able to hit the woods and streams this weekend and he harvested a nice turkey and some trout. Tonight we cooked it up. Smoked trout with a horseradish sauce (brined in 6oz apple juice, 2oz water, 3 oz soy sauce, 2 TBS brown sugar). This was served hot at the table, though we have smoked the trout pretty hard in the past and carried it on the trail for our first evening meal. The turkey was cut into strips and dipped in a batter of Bisquick, wheat beer, seasoned salt and pepper, then fried. Served with a variety of dipping sauces. I've always enjoyed game, whether on the trail, in camp, or at home. I have found that I like it best when it is my son who provides the meal.
Sorry, not really all that backpack oriented, but just had to brag on my boy a bit. So to make this applicable to the forum see above comment on hard smoking trout and ......how about that mountain house chili mac, nom, nom, nom.

Good on the kid for taking his first turkey! That's one critter I've never had the chance to hunt.
