Agree Jackson is a disreputable chap. He is considered the founder of the democratic party.
Harriet Tubman is very worthy of honor. She was a devout Christian, staunch Republican, and carried a firearm with her at all times.

^ Look how far the 2 parties have come from their beginnings. Just in the past 50 years, the Rs have gone from signing the EPA into law to denying Climate Change.

The Republican Party is a very different party today than it was then. Neither Tubman or Lincon wold be allowed in it today. And I'm pretty sure the Democrats wouldn't let Andy Jackson be a candidate for President on their ticket today. Things change, my friend.

Neither would today's democratic party nominate JFK or FDR. Both parties have been hijacked by extremist wingnuts and put up candidates that would have been ignored as whackos a generation ago. The crazy kooks with 'The End Is Near' signs are no longer on the street corner, they are running for president and have large public support.
We have many large issues in this country that need to be resolved, and media and public fixation is on whose picture is on our money?
People are stupid, and get stupider during elections.

I beg to differ. Today's Dems would gladly embrace FDR. Maybe not JFk so much, but that might not be such a bad thing. He's alway been overated, IMO. A cold warrior in a very good package.

Actually, according to a newspaper article (if you want to believe the media), Jackson was spinning when his image was put on the paper bill. According to the article, he abhorred paper money. Instead he thought that all currency should be either gold or silver. Just as an aside, he was the only president to ever pay off the country's debts, thus making the U.S. debt free!!! He is probably going to rest easy now that he knows his image will be removed from that accursed heathen devil paper money!!

Just as an aside, he [Andrew Jackson] was the only president to ever pay off the country's debts, thus making the U.S. debt free!!! Superficially, that may be true, but in the way Jackson temporarily paid off federal debt, he also assured that the debt would return more intransigent than before. In the field of short-term victory he sewed the seeds of long-term defeat. First, doing away with federal debt, he caused the doubling of state debt. Moving funds from a more tightly-controlled federal bank to more loosely-controlled state banks unleashed the very speculation in Western lands that he had sought to rein in. Then by trying to replace paper money with gold and silver, he precipitated the collapse of that speculation. From that followed the Panic of 1837, from which the federal government emerged in debt again. So sure, you could argue that superficially he did away with the federal debt, but because of the way he did that, he assured that the Government would immediately fall back into debt. Or at least, that is the view held by some.
