Anyone backpacking the Northern Rockies this summer? Will it be a high or low snow year? Fisher Creek Snotel is at 73" currrently.

It should still be 110-144" +. So I'd bet on a low snow year up north. Colorado is a different story. A good bit above average state- wide, but nothing record breaking. There's still another 1 1/2 months left of "Big Snow " season, so stay tuned, but I'd say the N Rockies are going to be dry this summer.

At lower level stations we are generally 5-15% below normal west of the Divide and much drier east of the Divide in Northwest Wyoming. More snow higher, new normal I guess.
We are looking at an earlier hiking season in the area as of now but like /swt says still a lot of snow time ahead. It is consistently significantly warmer than normal though.

Been a very low snow year in the Beartooth's this year until about two weeks ago when they got 4 ft dump in most places. The spring storms have yet to vent their fury so we could get significantly more before summer. In fact, we've had a snow/rain mix here in the valley for the past two-three days and I'm sure it's snowing heavily in the mountains. So, who knows? I'm betting on a somewhat less than average total when it's all said and done.

Panatomicx,
Thanks for the post! Have reset my bookmarks to monitor this season's backcountry plans. Current snow depth at trailhead for July 1st start is 79 inches.
