I'm not pushing this thing because I just saw it but has anyone had hands-on or know anything about it other than what the website touts? It uses a small solar panel to run a tiny condenser to collect moisture out of the air. It looks interesting but maybe more hype than reality? fontus.at/products/

It was discussed on some other forum, the short version is that it stands a chance on a bike, not so much walking. My comment on that forum was that the Incas already "harvested" fog so the idea is not exactly new however I still not had seen a portable system that worked. They are known as atmospheric water generators.

My daughter ordered one for me as a birthday present -- which was about three months ago. From what I gather, the company was taking orders but didn't have any product to ship. If I ever get the one she ordered I'll try it out and post a report.

This reminds me that last night I had another look at the Earl (backcountry survival tablet ...) project. looks like the guy has disappeared with most of the money that was raised for it, just over 700K.
Sometimes this happens because the difference between theory and practice is greater in practice than it is in theory.

I remember the Earl. My daughter asked me if I wanted one. I checked it out and said no because it wouldn't function at below freezing temps. Too bad for all those who invested and preordered.

Franco- I know how it works, I was just curious if anyone has actually seen one or if it was like... the Earl (backcountry survival tablet ...) Yeah, I think I originally posted about that thing and was keeping tabs on it. I almost "invested" but decided I'd rather wait and spend the extra money if and when it came out. I even questioned whether it was a scam on its boards and someone commented "No one ever stays in that area of China unless they have a good reason!". I then asked how anyone knew the guy was there other than he said so. The responses were pretty much "Because he said he was!"... Uh.... yeah... glad I saved my money.

I just learned from my daughter that shipments of the self filling water bottle were originally scheduled to begin this fall but have been delayed until April, 2017. So no test and report for a while -- if ever.
