I saw an ad for Fireside Provisions, a supplier of food and a few hard goods for campers. The meals look good, with a good selection, but I especially like the business model of having someone put together all of your food needs for a trip and ship it to you. Has anyone tried them yet? I don't know about their food........but their website design is excellent. FWIW
(sorry...I'm in the middle of a big software design/development project, so that's what I have an eye for these days...hopefully when it's done I'll try out some of their food on a hike)

"BACKPACKER: Averages about 1.5 to 2 pounds per person, per day."
Seems heavier than what I would carry per day...

1.5 to 2 lb per person-day is generally what I carry on long-haul trips. Used to be more (2-2.5 lbs), but I got better at preparing my own high-density meals. Less than that and I'm just hungry. Obviously it varies widely from person to person though.
Thanks for the link, Eco. That looks pretty danged nice. I may have to pick up a few sometime, just to try them out. (Long haul trips though, I still make my own whenever possible.)

I've considered it, and may give them a try out this summer. It's more than I would normally spend, but it just looks fun, and might be fun with a friend who isn't used to camping. A little from scratch, and a little of Fireside. I'll try anything once. It would also be nice if say, there's a quick schedule change, and you can get away (and don't have much time to prep). Bam. Grab the hootch and hit the trail.

Definitely heavier than where we've ended up, and in any case I like doing my own. But some of those dishes look pretty good. I might have to experiment
