"simple elegance or refinement of movement" More in thought and actions than physical ability. I recently hit a messy spot in life, and it's a reminder of how to carry myself in tough times.

Welcome. Now, how about an introduction that does us some good? Where are you generally hiking? What is your preference in regards to solo or with others? If you feel hesitant, just give us some vague idea of how and where. We have many folks here, with experience all over the map. We can offer some suggestions in your area, if you like. California is a big place, with environs from desert to high Sierra to Redwoods.

I'm in Northern CA, and a novice adventurer. For now, I'm staying pretty close to home, with a Point Reyes day trip and Armstrong Redwoods trip planned in the near future. On the bucket list this year is camping at Big Sur, and a few days at Yosemite, because I've never been. After that, who knows?
I'm a car camper for now, but the possibilities for mulit-day hiking trips will grow as my experience and confidence do. I have a lot to learn. That's what brought me to this wonderful place in the internet!

Welcome. California has a wealth of incredible places worth visiting. I lived in CA for many years, and I don't think I scratched the surface of places to see. Any gear you get for backpacking will also be very useful for car camping or day hiking. Happy trails.

Hellooooo Grace!
I'm pretty sure you can eat bacon and still be a Vegetarian. I'm not 100% confident...but pretty sure. Welcome to our abode. Pull up a chair around the fire and share a story or two...
