I have little choice for internet, Comcast is about $60 a month and the speed is rarely what they advertise. I'm pretty sure that they sell their email addresses, because I am inundated in spam despite rarely registering it on websites.

I've got a Fios bundle so I've no idea what my internet at home is. My AT&T wireless is unlimited at $40 per month. And with their LTE I usually see north of 25 MB per second and it can hit 45 or more .... both quite dwarfed by my work wifi: easily 200 plus.

And ATT wanted me to pay almost $70 for 18Mbs! No thanks. Home internet service or cellphone?

Where I live I have a choice of one provider -- Digitalpath -- and no local hotspots. On a good day the max speed is 3 MBS. On most days it is intermittent, up and down. Their yelp rating is one star because they do not allow zero stars. I have gotten bad grades from online courses I am taking because I cannot complete the assignments on time with this provider. Semaphore flags would give me better service.
My verizon aircard is faster at 18mbs, but have limited data download, so I save it for traveling.

After the most recent fee raise, I'm paying a little over $70/mo ($54 USD) for probably 25Mbps or less and 60GB (both download and upload) usage.
The vast majority of Canadians are limited to Bell or Rogers, who actively engage in price fixing across all their services (wireless, home phone, TV, internet). And they get away with it because they've built and own the only available networks. Metropolitan Canadians have some choice in smaller wireless carriers and ISPs (of which most rent network usage from the major providers), but even then better priced alternatives have limited geographical reach. My personal wireless carrier only operates in Canada's large cities as they've done what they can to build their own networks, but I get away with $68/mo ($53 USD, handset tab included) compared to $100ish ($77 USD) for a similar package from the major carriers. I could get better internet service for half my current cost, but my neighbourhood isn't serviced by that ISP, only one of the major ISPs.

I'm on a bundle package, but it works out to about $50 a month for 50mbs.

What I find interesting is that y'all compare speeds, while we typically compare bandwidth.

3.2 Mbps for around $32/month. I guess that is about half of what some folks think is crappy speed. But it is really not so bad. With my fiber optics line, I could go a lot higher, but I don't see a need.

What I find interesting is that y'all compare speeds, while we typically compare bandwidth. That's because you get 60 GB up and down, where I get 350 GB a month.
