Late last summer, the thunderstorms cleared to the point where I could backpack the Wemuniche's scenic CDT and CT intersection in a small loop with some other trails. Left my vehicle east of Silverton Colorado and started hiking up. Immediately I started thinking maybe I bit off more than I could chew and a hotel room next to a Denver microbrewery started looking really good. The endorphins started kicking in and the beautiful scenery reminded me why I was there. Scenic snack break ... required. Actually got hit with rain, passing a family putting on raingear, shouting directions, .. while thinking about how far I wanted to go and how smart it would be retreat for a wooded campsite. Luckily the rest of the trip had storm free days until the very end. Nights were another thing mostly going to sleep with the sound of (hopefully) distant thunder ... mostly coming from Ouray and "Big Blue"/Uncomprehegr area CT and CDT intersection Spent a few days up near and past Beartown, going deeper with storm rumblings behind me at night (the storms were at Ouray, right?), and seeing the beetle kill. That part did not need to get photographed. I looped and returned to Beartown, then retraced my steps to the intersection above. Coming back I barely beat another storm front coming through with massive thunder. This time I did get to that hotel room.

Very motivated. You've been reading my mind. Doing a Wemi super loop beginning late June and covering some of the same area. Will start and finish at the General Palmer in Durango. Have car hired. Will collect us and drop us off at Wolf Creek Pass. Then hike 100 miles on the CDT to the intersection with the CT and descend 10 miles to Elk Park railroad stop. Final journey via smoke & cinder back to Durango. Hoping to ascend bicentennial peaks, Mount Oso, Peak One and White Dome along the way.

We'll be in Chicago Basin late June. I've hiked a couple of 14ers near Breckenridge, but this will be my first backpack trip to CO. These photos are just making me look forward to it even more!

Great trip! If there weren't rain you wouldn't know you were in the Weminuche
