Hey folks, hoping someone out here has some experience with Mytopo custom maps.
I placed an order on February 15 and I'm still waiting on my map. On February 26, I received an email that the map was being held up by the GPX overlay. They asked me to send the GPX file. I have no idea what a GPX file is! That is why I am willing to pay 16 bucks for a map! I built the map on their software linked through Backpacker magazine's website. I sent him a link to the site. I did not here anything back again. On March 17 I once again inquired about the status of my map. They responded that they were manually creating the map. So on March 23, I once again emailed them about the status of my map I have not heard anything back.
To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I have been dealing with vendors in the outdoor industry for over 30 years. Most of these companies are very consumer oriented, so I have been spoiled. MyTopo has been completely horrible at communicating and getting me a map in a timely fashion Imagine if my trip was sooner? You would think a map company would want repeat business. Maybe they have just given up on my order???
Sorry to rant, but just curious if my experience was an isolated one. I have never felt the need to complain about a company in the forum.
MORE IMPORTANTLY... Looks like i need a company that can actually create a custom topo. Thankfully, my trip isn't until July.
Many Thanks...DHT

I picked up a custom topo from them back in the first week of January. It wasn't anything special, just a combination of sections of two Canada National Topographic Series maps (012H12 and 012H13). Used their online map-maker to put together my composite. Received it relatively quickly.
Had no issues.
Would deal with again and would recommend.
What were you getting a map of and what info are you getting on it?

I have purchased several custom maps from them, with no issues. Haven't done so in about 3 years though, so things change. I think your map has fallen through the system somehow.

I have probably bought 10 or more maps from them in the last 12 years. I have never even had to wait a week for it to show up at my house.

Same here. 5 or 6 maps, no problems. Last one ordered June '15.

I've ordered 2 from them and have been very happy. Speedy and really nice work. I didn't know they could/would lay a gpx file (coordinates for a trail) on top of your chosen map. This would be really handy. I might just check go look at their website today.

The Hybrid Topo maps are pretty cool as well.

Just placed my first order for three (3) custom 24K topo maps from these folks. They will print & ship. The new USGS system is totally FUBAR for me. My Geekazoid level on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest is 2.5 (maybe). Trying to download the custom MyTop maps was also not my pay grade. Will report back timeliness, accuracy and quality of maps when received.

My experience with MyTopo was negative, but it was at least 10 years ago and things have probably changed since. Because of how their pricing worked, I paid for more maps than I used right away, expecting to use the remainder on my next trip. When that time came a few months later, my balance was gone. Instead of paying less per map by buying in volume, I actually paid more.

Add my name to list of posters who have used them multiple times with no problems. I love being able to carry one map instead of 3-4 USGS quads.

No problems with them in the past and the maps arrive quickly (I live in Spokane, WA).
I will say that it was difficult to negotiate the website initially.

Just received my order from My Topo. Took five (5) calendar days from order. Wicked fast. The 24K topo Maps are of great detail using very high quality paper. The maps are slightly larger, nine (9) inches in length most notable and c. two (2) inches in width. The legibility and readability is outstanding. The maps feel much heavier than normal but A-OK for my intended use. Mission is to hike a lower elevation, early season, snow avoidance CDT Alternative other than the Creede cut-off or Great American Divide alternatives.

I've used mytopo many times and always been happy. The web interface is atrocious, but the maps are nice.

I built the map on their software linked through Backpacker magazine's website. I sent him a link to the site. Would you mind sharing that link here?
