Does anybody know how, or if it is possible, to access the old Backpacker Forum? There was a wealth of information that I would love to be able to look at again.

It's gone. Dried up from owner neglect. Several folks have expressed a desire to look up old reports, etc... Not happening. BP'er didn't care enough. This site is currently separate.

Pretty sure it's gone forever, which is a shame. Glad we have a functional forum, but we certainly did lose a ton of great info.

It's a crime that all that information is lost. I re-posted one of my old TR's in that "10 days in Wyoming/Montana" thread. Dorfworld is still up. I thought I had printed some of SwimswithTrout's TR's, but I can't find them. I have a bunch of stuff bookmarked, If you're looking for info about a specific area I can post some links.

In the old days people wrote books and libraries stocked books and everybody read books and most information was never lost. (Except for the library in Alexandria). Now everything is on the Interwad and every website could disappear easily with no warning. But the interNad gives the common man a voice, a book, a blog, a format, a photo album, a facebook---information no publisher or library would touch. Isn't there a website which stores billions of pages of internet stuff in a neverending archive? Something like this--- archive.org/web/Maybe all those old Backpacker threads are in the archive?

I lost a lot of good TRs on previous Backpacker site incarnations that I didn't have the foresight to download. In comparison, every triplog and photoset I've ever posted on HAZ is still there.
