Was referred over here by someone on the old Backpacker Forum, hoping folks can offer some suggestions.
My old palisade finally bit the dust, but it was too big for the backpacking that I usually do, anyway. I have a trip coming up in Glacier and I’m looking for a new pack.I don’t necessarily do the ultralight thing, but I’d like something relatively light and streamlined that’s about 3000 cubic inches. Following characteristics would be ideal:
Removable hip-belt and backpanel (for daypack use) some kind of water bottle pocket that can be accessed without taking the pack off No separate sleeping bag compartment on the bottom No trampoline-style ventilation $200 or less
I have a list going, but nothing quite hits all the marks: Granite Gear Crown VC (on the big end and expensive), Gregory Savant, Lowe Eclipse 45:55 (hipbelt looks a bit slight) Boreas Lost Coast (45 is a bit small, 65 is a bit large).
Any ideas are much appreciated! (I’m also very willing to hit the used market on ebay)

I liked the Granite Gear Vapor and now Crown series but that sil really gets scratched up if goin off trail into thorny bushes (prefer dyneema grid)

How much weight are you wanting to carry?
A Paradox Divide or Unaweep sounds perfect except for the price.
My wife has a GG crown 60 ki and the "frame" is pretty flimsy. It's virtually a frameless pack, not that there is anything wrong with that, I used frameless packs for years, but it doesn't seem like what you are looking for. The water bottle pockets aren't great either.
If you user pack weight is under 25lbs and you use a Closed Cell foam sleeping pad frameless is good. If you use an inflatable pad or get much above 25lbs frameless doesn't work so well.
If you want something to carry a bit more weight you might look at a ULA Circuit on the used market. A granite gear pack with the fiberglass frame would carry more weight than the crown but water bottle pockets are a weekness of all GG packs. An Exped Lightning 45 or 60 might work too but again the water bottle pockets sent great.

Haven't weighed my gear in a while, but probably right around 25 lbs. Really looking for something that can work as a spacious daypack and get loaded up for a night or two in the backcountry.
Also looking at the Boreas Lost Coast (smaller 45 Liter version). Anyone have experience with them?

My two cents - With that weight, I want a real hip belt and stays. It's borderline but I've not found a smaller pack to comfortably carry 25 lbs of gear. If I were in your shoes, I'd be just picking up a simplistic full sized pack and cinching it down for daypack use.

The Osprey Volt is worth considering (not a removable belt but not a lot of money, 60L) as is the Kelty 44/50 design (44L or 50L - great for a short trip, excellent urban/day/flight bag, routinely sold for $100 or less).
