I have searched subjects by threads and reread many of the posts. I have come back to this many times as a newbie that I am to maintain bearing in finding the knowledge available. I appreciate the veteran input and the honest "it depends" answers according to the situations presented.

Excellent advice! As a backpack nerd I cannot agree more with the tips you give on choosing the right pack! Two thumbs up!

There is a lot of good information in the article. I have a questions about wearing boots/trail shoes ect. I enjoy wearing sandals a lot but I'm nervous about wearing them on hikes. Are hiking sandals okay to wear on easy hikes for people starting out?

That would depend on the terrain, and your own ability to deal with any thorns, rocks, etc... Keens and others like them are good water shoes, but you won't catch me wearing them down the trail.

Great thread. I love being in the mountains. that being said, I'm old, and wander around rather then hike. Not everyone has deep pockets with the ability to buy the latest and lightest of gear, but need to work towards that goal. I like the saying, ( walk your own walk ) Many come to sites such as this to learn.
