No, not cannibis. I got that handled. We are having trouble with a Clerodendrum. First plant was in a corner, near our new vinyl fence. It lasted less than a week, even with watering care. We figured it was too close to the heat coming off the fence, so the second plant went in the front yard, not near any reflective surface. it too died within a week. We returned both dead plants to the store for a full refund, but M really wants to have one of these, so I am asking our community for help. There seems to be all sorts of informed, and skilled people here. Maybe one of you can tell me what we are doing wrong.
Soil is sandy, so it drains well. We watered frequently, but not so much as to drown. Potting soil was added to the soil that came with the plant to make a bigger, better base when we stuck it in the ground.
Any ideas?

It could be the PH balance of your soil.

What were the symptoms prior to death? Yellowing leaves, etc.

I don't think it would be pH because it didn't get established long enough for that to affect the plant.
I did some reading, and apparently wilting common for these plants, especially when first planted (nursery shock). I also read that they are pretty much kill-proof, and can actually be invasive (suckers). Next time you plant, provide some temporary shade for it. If the leaves wilt and die, keep watering the plant for a couple weeks and see if new growth re-emerges.

keep watering the plant for a couple weeks and see if new growth re-emerges. Thanks. We will take that route next time. Right now, she has settled on Bougainvillea for that location. She still wants the plant, just not in that location. My reading has told me we need to keep it in a pot so it doesn't take over the yard with suckers and offshoots.
