Anyone ever hear of this? It's in TN and I hadn't until I watched a documentary on Netflix. Interesting and funny. 5 loops of a nominal 20 miles each but are really 5 marathons of 26 miles each with 60 hours to finish. Started in 1986, there have only been 15 finishers out of approximately 1000 starters. The field is limited to 35 each year. Although there is a 60 mile "fun run" for those who want less.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons

Yep. Learned of it several years back. The hard part is figuring out how to sign up. It's about as hard core as it gets.

I worked at an area outdoors store in the early 2000s. We hosted a series of adventure races and were familiar with the Barkley race, although back then we just called it the frozen head race. It is very hardcore, but I think the main draw to it is the quirky & ever changing registration and race management process. Throw in the low publicity and you get what amounts to a "hipster" adventure race, if that makes sense.
In my opinion, it still did not hold a candle to the old (& now defunct) beast of the east race.

I could do it, but 5 loops are sooooo boring.
