I'm looking at the Teton Crest Trail and realizing how limited it is to get in and reserve a hike.
Are all the Wyoming parks this hard to get in to?

Depends on which park you're talking about. I don't think it's a Wyoming problem any more than it is a problem in other states with popular hiking areas. GTNP is a national park and federally administered. It has nothing to do with the state of Wyoming other than it happens to be located there. That it's so spectacular has much to do with it being so difficult to get permits. Everyone seems to want to hike there for good reason. What's more, the Teton Crest is one of the most popular hikes in the country. It's very similar in Glacier in Montana or the Grand Canyon in Arizona for the same reasons. On the other hand, if you wanted to hike in say, Great Basin or Theodore Roosevelt National Parks which are great places but not quite so well known for their scenery, you would probably have little trouble getting a permit.

I will sound like a broken record here, but I've been spending time in the Tetons for the past 15+ years and have never left the state of Michigan with a permit. You'll have NO issues getting a permit the day before you start your trip with a little flexibility. I really like the idea of camp zones rather than a specific site number. Yellowstone is fairly easy too. Glacier on the other hand is a pain in the @$$ when it comes to planning a trip.
Furthermore if you have any Teton questions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks guys and I suppose I will have more questions as I come upon them.
kcwins, We have family that lives in Alpine which is why we've been to the Tetons the last couple of years. Just about 40 minutes south of Jackson Hole. I love it there!
We're wanting to do the Teton Crest Trail and figuring on a 5 day 4 night hike from Granite Canyon to the Leigh Lake trailhead.
By the way, I was married to a Michigan girl for 14 years and use to love visiting there in Owosso. We never got to make it to the U P but I enjoyed the country up there.

From Alpine if you haven't been to Thayne/Bedford and hiked up Strawberry Canyon to Hidden Lake YOU MUST. Exquisite dayhike. Great boodndocking area too. Salt Rivers rock.

I'll help you with a shuttle if schedule allows.
When you say Granite Canyon I'm assuming you're thinking of taking the tram. That's cool but remember not to wear yourself out before the climb out of Marion. If you're gonna go up Granite it might be one of the best drainages on the planet to see moose. Sing through the closer quarter areas, blackies can get surprised.
Well, if we don't hear from you have a great trip.

Thanks! I may give you a shout but we should have a shuttle. Looks like we're meeting up with some family in the Alaskan Basin for the night too since it is pet friendly in that area.
Yes, getting close to black bears in thick bushes is something I learned about last year but you do have me wondering about getting photos of Moose now.
I can barely wait for this trip!
