I'll still be able to hike, but probably not for the next four to six weeks. Moreover, trekking poles, swimming, paddling, and cycling (except for the recumbent bike in our basement) are out for the next 3-5 months.
I tore my left biceps muscle - more precisely, the distal tendon that secures the lower end of the muscle to the radius bone. I was swinging a softball bat during a game, overextended, and the tendon pulled away from the bone. I've scheduled surgery to re-attach it.
I hope you're all avoiding injuries and enjoying time outside.

Heal fast and well!
I'm working up the courage to call my doctor about a 10 day knee issue.

Wow, that sounds really horrible. I hope you heal up quickly, and hope you're back out on the trail soon.

Yikes! Softball is unkind to old guys. Heal fast (and carefully)!

Hope you heal quickly. For me it takes far longer now. Injuries are unavoidable it seems.

Ugh. Hope you heal fast.
On Saturday, I was recruited to play a game of kickball. Since I was wearing inappropriate footwear, I decided to play barefoot. Somehow, I managed to dislocate a toe. I don't remember doing it, and it wasn't even my kicking foot! But I didn't let it stop me from competing in an 8-mile orienteering event with my son yesterday. It's all colors of the rainbow today.

Our son in his 40's and in good shape, tore his Achilles playing softball. It wasn't a complete tear and he rehabbed it rather than having surgery. Softball and other sports can be tough on us.

Sad news, Leadbelly. I wish you a quick recovery. In 2012 I had the same injury—-distal bicep rupture. I had surgery and was in a hard cast for two weeks followed by a brace for six. I ended up getting frozen shoulder after the surgery. I truly hope you don’t! I hope you have a fast recovery!

Dang, sorry to hear that! It gets far too easy to hurt ourselves as we age, and take far too long to recover (says that gal with a standing date to do PT with a friend—because we always have SOMETHING that needs work).

A good friend pushed the limits of the same injury and extended his recovery significantly. Please don't . Good healing wishes.

on the plus, clinical approaches to this have evolved. i'll be in a sling for a few days, painkillers less than a week, no brace, no cast. Also no weight-bearing on that arm for 4-6 weeks, then rehab to regain strength and flexibility.
looks grisly where it tore, but it doesn't hurt much. I'll be happy when the repair is done.
