One reason I love my 21-year-old Subaru... Have you replaced the head gasket yet? Just curious.

I have noticed more 'creamy' or earthtone colors for cars nowadays which I'll probably go for when this one finally gives out. Seems to me that Subaru has done the best job of including earth-tone colors of any more recent vehicle make I've noticed.

Coolkat I had a Subaru-only mechanic overhaul the engine a few years ago, which included head gasket. So, yes and I end up taking it to my local mechanic Buddy periodically as things break. Travis I would LOVE to get another Subaru, but they don't seem to want to build another Baja, so I may need to go with a Hyundai Santa Cruz or similar. They make those in some muted colors. I need a pickup bed just a little bit and I want to keep my next car for another 20 years, if not longer. Maybe I just don't like that new car smell...

The one before that lasted 300k miles. Yeah, our Outback needed it after maybe 160K. That was when we decided to go to the Prius. The old (2000) Outback had a really skimpy rear seat, and it was becoming an issue even for our kids, who (as some of you will know) weren’t exactly giants.

Lol, yes....skimpy rear seats. Designed for a dog and grocery bags, not humans. I have 2 with 32" inseams, and the second one is only 14 yo. He's already 5'10". The youngest is 12, and a major manspreader. He's now taller than me. He grew an inch in a week, just last week. So yeah, as we are looking at cars to replace the old car we sold back to Ford, they all have to come along and sit in it, or Kirk has to sit in the back - to see if it will even fit any of them. At least in the 350 I can fit all 3 across the back and they don't even touch - well except for Captain Manspreader. Maybe in 6 years I will be able to drive a small, zippy car once again, when it is just me.

Yeah, our Outback needed it after maybe 160K. We had to replace the head gasket in ours at like 135k or something if I remember correctly. The next subaru we had I got tired of replacing starters and alternators. Sold it and got our first camry. Been a toyota person since. I would love to go back to Subaru for their awd for winters but I've lost confidence unfortunately.

Interiors are on par with an Audi, and as far as suspension goes, Subaru has nothing on Mazda. Mazdas are smooth rides with an excellent suspension systems. Reliability is great according to Consumer Reports. And if you like the color red, Mazda has a super sharp looking red color. As a side note, red is the color with the highest resale followed by white. Happy Trails, DR

I don't remember the exact mileage at the time, but it was close to 200,000.
