Death in the National Parks

If you go to the NPS page that the information was derived from, there is a "mortality dashboard" that allows breaking the data down by years, cause, national park, age, gender, and so on. If you combine hiking and walking, the fatalities are almost as numerous as vehicle accidents.

And suicides outnumber any unintentional cause of death, including even vehicle crashes. Some people choose to die in a national park.

Others choose to take closeup selfies with bison and grizzlies, as if those people were not a bit suicidal. But that data is not included here, of course.
