I’ve owned a few of their packs, mostly kids’ packs and their kid carrier, which is now all so long ago I can’t speak to their products. At the time, though, there were excellent.
When our kids were little there were two serious backpacks for schlepping munkchins into the mountains, one by Kelty and one by Deuter. We had both, and I far prefered the Deuter, in part because it fit—Kelty apparently assumed it would always be large men toting the baby, and Deuter… did not. The kid-size packs we got a few years later were excellent, and had a wide size-rang adjustment; again reflecting thought given to the reality of such.

schlepping munkchins into the mountains Great turn of phrase; didn't even notice the spelling at first.

I've also owned one of their kid carriers, and also a daypack and a large capacity backpack that I use as my load hauler (I think it's 70L). Deuters just seem to fit me. I think they make a great pack.

I almost bought a Deuter daypack once. It was very comfortable and the construction looked great. I wore it fully loaded for a quite a while in the store. The only thing that stopped me was that its capacity was too close to something I already had, although it was somewhat lighter.

My wife used a Deuter ACT 40+10 for years. It was comfortable, is still PERFECT, and would go hundreds of miles more. Only reason it's relegated to the gear closet is the fact we went UL and saved over a pound on her pack. In the same span I trashed a Granite Gear pack and broke the hip belt on an Osprey. The Deuter had this little plastic flower attached to it, for God knows what promotional reason. I see that bit of gewgaw in pics from the GC, the Sierra, Utah, Wyoming, the Daks, and numerous New England traipses from the Greens to the Bigelows. The flower seemed tougher then some newer packs.....

I had one of their ski packs for a number of years - 36 liter bag, very light frame, some sort of hard plastic/polyester hoop, and compression straps that could be reversed to tote a pair of backcountry skis or snowshoes across the back. It was durable, comfortable, and very functional, well-designed; ended up handing it off to our son, who used it as a large daypack. it was a balance of bells and whistles - some nice features without being over-engineered.
If i were in the market for a mid-sized pack, I would try one on if it were available.

“ some nice features without being over-engineered. ”
This is a problem I’ve seen with some German products! Definitely over-engineered.

My Deuter Act Zero 50+15 is 10 years old and still solid despite a lot of use. Comfortably carries up to 30 lbs and at 3lb 4oz is darn reasonable. I have yet to find a reasonable replacement that is a pound lighter at a reasonable cost and carries just as comfortably. REI now carries Zamberlan and AKU boots/shoes online. Yeah but they ditched Salewa. One of the few brands that fit me and has dependable traction and grip.
