My relatives are already researching locations for the upcoming eclipse in Australia.

I just looked them up and the eclipse in Luxor, Egypt in 2027 sounds interesting. Being over desert means little chance of cloud cover and over 6 minutes of totality. A number of Egyptian temples will be good viewing spots. Hopefully no wrath of Ra.

Late to the thread..............(as usual) I went to a local state park for the eclipse, with no real intention of photographing anything. Special filters are needed to protect the camera, and I was too cheap to buy one just for about 30 minutes of use. It was intermittently cloudy were I was, so I used them. Here's a link (until I remember how to post photos here) flickr.com/photos/va3pinner/53642807622/

I photographed the 2017 eclipse with no special equipment. Think if I did any shots outside totality I probably stuck my eclipse glasses over the lens.

I read a post about the effect direct sunlight can have on a digital sensor. Sort bursts (sunset photos, backlit with sun in the image) are OK. but I was a bit concerned about focusing on the sun for such a long time to record an eclipse. Next time I guess!!

Direct sunlight, outside of totality, when focused on, particularly with a telezoom lens, can damage the sensor…or so they say. I didn’t want to risk it and put my camera to the test!

and I was too cheap to buy one just for about 30 minutes of use. I'm with ya there. That is why I spent about $15 between the special film and pringles can. I got some decent shots but my limiting factor was my lens. After accounting for crop factor my lens maxed out at 300mm which is just barely the beginning to get decent pics of the sun
