It's sad, but perhaps inevitable. You'd think at their price point, they wouldn't be too sensitive to labor costs.

Not surprised. the company that owns Filson also owns Shinola. It has become more of a lifestyle brand. I had a love/hate relationship with a Filson tin hat. performed really well in the rain & looked great. The brim was so thick and hard that it gave me headaches, though.

I went into Filson Portland on Monday to get a hat. Filson has 11 stores nationwide. I have to give the store excellent marks for customer service. As soon as I entered the store, two sales associates welcomed me into the store. As I started perusing the aisles, another sales associate approached me welcoming me into the store and asking if I needed any help. I thanked them and declined any help at the moment. Shortly thereafter, I headed to another side of the store where the manager came out and welcomed me to the store. We had an interesting conversation on gear. Overall, I have not had good customer service at downtown outdoor stores in Portland. Customer service was excellent at Filson Portland. Very personable staff and friendly, too. I’d recommend stopping in if you’re in the area. I’ve purchased gear at Filson many years ago. Some of it is over 20 years old now (like the shirt below) and still looks great. I love their 865 Traditional Wool Shirt; it’s not available anymore, but I thinks it’s one of the best gear & apparel purchases I’ve made over the years. I have several in different colors. Regards, DR
