Sorry to be taking more than my fair share of air time. I'm preparing for my annual fall trips and tweaking my gear.
I have a $50 reward card at EMS that I need to spend in the next couple of weeks. I spent quite a bit of time at their website and in the store and couldn't find a single thing that I want or need. Not sure how that's even possible. I'm probably at the point where I have more gear than I need (5 tents) and am trying to downsize.
I hike, bike, kayak, and camp. If I "needed" something, I would already have it, so this is purely about wanting to use the reward card. Any suggestions??

What items need replacement periodically? Socks & baselayers, for example.

How about a lightweight wind shirt/jacket? One of the most versatile pieces of outdoor clothing I have and it weighs almost nothing. The one I have just happens to be an EMS one I purchased years ago. I still use it regularly.

Random small things that I think have improved a lot in the last few years - soft-sided coolers (for kayaking), solar-powered camp lights, car-camping sinks (hard-sided but collapsible.)
Things that I'm always replacing because they wear out/get used up - socks, flip-flops, consumables like camp soap, backpacking food, fuel
I wore EMS brand hiking pants for years because they were one of the only companies that offered short seam lengths.

I'll echo what hikerjer suggested, although mine is a wind jacket, not a shirt. It weighs 5 oz, which is almost zero for a L-Tall jacket. It may be my favorite piece of gear. Great for enjoying windy pass/peak views, sitting around camp when it's barely cool, starting cold-day hikes (before I warm up), even wearing inside my sleeping bag as a partial vapor retarder. If it gets sweated in or rained on it dries faster than anything else I own. After I'd used it on a couple of trips I bought a spare just in case the mfr removed it from its line-up, which they did. I think there are lots of similar options out there for non-tall sizes.

Forgive the pun but freeze dried meals will eat up $50 pretty fast.

I easily go through $50 of wool socks in a year.

As a side note I’m surprised EMS is even around these days…

There used to be one right next door to Campmor, but it vanished quite long ago.

The EMS in Conway was thriving last time I was by that way a year ago.
oh, and definitely food. A necessity and a very long shelf life. Or first aid things.

EMS expanded aggressively to many markets in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. I remember them having 2-3 stores each in Denver and Chicago markets as well as lots of stores in New England and New York. So many of their stores have since closed. I’m glad to see they’re still around and wish them well.
Happy Trails,
DR
