Tonight, the Las Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in ICE HOCKEY by beating the Florida Panthers.
An ice hockey championship won by a team whose home is in the desert over a team whose home is in the tropics.
I honestly never thought it would come to this, but I guess this is why we have climate change. Humans are oblivious.

Being a Montreal Canadiens fan, I'm not arguing, but the cooling and insulating technologies have vastly improved since the days of the 1970s "iceboxes". Now, it's all about fan-base economics, and the US has a larger population and more $. FYI... a Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993.

Damn kids these days. And another thing, all the thousands of people who drive up and down I-70 to ski and snowboard on scraped down mountains to show off their latest snow pants and brag about how many “days they got in” this season. (I’m guilt also of driving up and down the mountains except it’s in the warmer season and I don’t brag about my latest gear. But I did get a new pair of La Sportivas this year. Which are nice)

Now, it's all about fan-base economics, and the US has a larger population and more $. Vegas has a strong fan base and the big show money. My son and DIL were living in Vegas during the Knights first two years. They said visiting teams often complained about the noise saying they could not communicate with the coach or other team members. My son said the response was a shrug and "This is Vegas" comment. I'm sure the show like atmosphere was distracting to the visiting teams. Though by now they may be accustomed to it. |

I could say some things about hockey's evolving fan base but sadly this isn't the place it used to be. Gawd I miss the days of venomous bluegrassers in velour shirts and bombastic barristers that resembled Vernon Wormer.
