Today, they checked both eyes, said they were doing well. That is good news. Several friends have had the cataracts removed with great success.

She wants to wait until the benefit outweighs the risk The first time it really affected me was just as I started a solo trip in the Catskills. I was doing a steep climb up rocky terrain. I got to a section that I really needed 3d to figure out how to get through that section. But I guess because of the distortion the rocks sort of moved around as I scanned. It made my head spin. I almost turned around because it was a sensation I had never felt before. On this trail it would not be good to pass out. But it went away and I continued. I think likely it had been happening slowing in familiar surrounding without really noticing but then this unique visual just made it hit home. I think now my brain has figured out the left eye is the good one even on the trail.
It is still weird to look up and down a straight line like a door jam with my right eye and see it wiggle.
One thing the doc said about this surgery is that when I get cataracts in the right eye it will now be sooner.

Another day, much better, but Carol says there is still swelling around my eyes, just not as pronounced. Not that I care, but if you use make-up, you aren't to use it "around your eyes."

I first noticed a problem a year ago while stargazing and the stars were getting sparkly (if that's a word) instead of steady and pinpoints.

My doc said no swimming for two or three weeks after. I guess it is an infection issue. Also it will take a couple of weeks to know how well my vision was corrected.

Only light lifting, I can take a shower, but no swimming like ErnieW said, just take it easy for a couple of weeks.

So I had my surgery yesterday. Feeling good, no pain but right eye vision very blurry. The doc says a week or so before that calms down. I won't know how effective it was for a while. He did say the scar tissue came off cleanly and in one piece.
The operation was weird. I was made semi-conscious. The doc said fully out people snore and that is bad for eye surgery and there will be parts where they ask me to look in certain directions. It mostly didn't hurt. They had a bright light shining into my right eye the whole time and a couple of times I "saw" the shadow of the forceps that were in my eye.
I have to do antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops four times a day. I can take a shower but should try to not get water in my eye. I have to be careful driving since for right now I am essentially one eyed.

ErnieW, good for you. It was a few days before my eyes settled down and I felt safe driving. That is just part of it, I guess.

I hope the healing goes well. Thanks for the additional detail about the surgery. Thank you all. I wasn't sure if it was too much detail. Today my vision in that eye is much better. Just a tiny bit blurry with a little cloudiness (not exactly cloudy but closest word I could think of).

Quick update: Doc said this week I am healing nicely but will be a couple of weeks before we know how successful. My vision is clearer although still a tiny bit cloudy. I can't wear my contacts yet and I really dislike wearing glasses. I have to do a drop of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory four times a day.
