I'm new to this site and have a specific question about the Beartooths. I have a group of 68 year old men headed there at the end of July for several days for a mostly off-trail experience. We'd like to hike a high ridge one day and it looks like Mound Rosebud, Mount Dewey, and maybe summit mountain might fit the bill. We're experienced, in good shape and go ultralight, but we're not climbers so we're looking for a steep hike, not a climb (a little scrambling is okay, but no exposure). Specific questions are (1) is it possible to work out way up Mount Rosebud from Fossil Pass without too much hand-over-fist effort and (2) is the saddle between Mount Rosebud and Mount Dewey a non-treacherous stroll with no exposure? I've seen in trip reports where backpackers have worked their way up to Dewey and Summit and back down on the east side with no worries, so it would appear we're good there. FYI, the general plan is to take the Lady of the Lake/Skytop drainage to Rough Lake on Day 1, drop down to Oly then Fossil Lake on day 2, go high day 3 and maybe to Desolation or Z Lake, and work our way back to Clark Trailhead on Days 4 & 5. Thanks much for any help!

is it possible to work out way up Mount Rosebud from Fossil Pass without too much hand-over-fist effort I would say yes. There are no trails, so routefinding will affect this. is the saddle between Mount Rosebud and Mount Dewey a non-treacherous stroll with no exposure? I seem to recall some exposure there. Nothing too technical, but it's a sharpish ridge. Sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy!
