Looks like the love child of an FJ Cruiser and a Honda Ridgeline.

Looks like the love child of an FJ Cruiser and a Honda Ridgeline. It does. I'd rather have a longer bed single cab that would provide decent enclosed space with a topper. The single cab long bed will reportedly be available in the '24 Tacoma. I'm glad I went with the 4Runner, though.

Can someone please explain to me why a shortbed pickup like that is any more than a small SUV with the roof peeled off the back?
I have a hard time taking any "truck" seriously that can't reasonably carry a 4x8 sheet of sheetrock.

Yeah, when I want to use a truck, I want it to handle more than I'd put on the roof of my Outback, which is a test most short beds fail.

Also provides a sleeping compartment in a pinch.

I have a hard time taking any "truck" seriously that can't reasonably carry a 4x8 sheet of sheetrock. A couple of years ago I actually downsized from my previous F-150s to a Tacoma. I struggled with the decision, but I'm happy with it. My reasoning is that I only have one or two construction projects of reasonable size left in my life, and if I need a larger truck I can rent one at Home Depot or UHaul for a day or a week. In the meantime the Tacoma handles a lot of jobs well, and is much easier to drive and park.

A year and a half ago I downsized from my 1998 F150 Longbed to a 2006 Tacoma. I miss the size of the Ford but I'm just 5,10" so I can sleep in the back of the hard shelled Tacoma, what really matters for me here in grizzly country.
