Last Sunday I had some time towards the end of my drive down to Big South Fork in Tennessee, so before I left I searched online for a nice short hike in the area. Over the years I had visited nearly every waterfall in the area, and I didn't feel like a repeat. Then I found Mill Springs, a small historic park that doesn't even mention its outstanding water features -- but I found a site that brought it to my attention so I had to check it out. Mill Springs was actually the site of the first major Union victory in the Civil War, and the park also includes a large 1860 house and restored Mill. It's on the shore of Lake Cumberland, which covers more than 100 square miles after a major damn was built a century after the 1862 battle. Now, for the water features. The first two pics are right near the mill, though you have to climb over a fence to get a view of the tall falls. To get to Meadow Creek Falls & Cascades, find a wide swath of mowed field behind the house. The path turns left past an old gravestone, then turns right to a small trail on the left that goes through the woods to a view of the falls and then to the cascades further upstream. Several waterfalls that spill into Lake Cumberland can be reached by boat, including Meadow Creek (last photo above).

Nice…! Thx for sharing. I heard KY has an excellent state park system. An early victory for General Thomas, too.
Regards,
