Anyone here own any products by cottage gear & apparel maker Outdoor Vitals? If so, what do you think? They’re a Utah-based company specializing in ultra light products. A direct-to-consumer brand. outdoorvitals.comRegards, DR

I've been watching their youtube videos and a couple of the youtube backpacking "stars" promote their stuff. The only thing I own of theirs is the free pillow I ordered last week and is waiting for pickup so I can't give you my opinion just yet.

Meh... I was intrigued and got their free pillow, then realized that they're an "only men need to apply" store. Yeah, they sort of put on this unisex image but let's be honest, "unisex" really means men's sizes. (It's almost insulting actually, as if they're saying it's made for men but it's OK for women to use.) It looks like they've added women-specific clothes since I last looked but their gear sizing is still 'tall and taller.'
From a practical point of view, it doesn't make sense for a small woman to invest in "ultralight" backpacking gear that's sized for a guy a foot taller and 50lb heavier (even if they show a woman hugging a pad that looks a foot too long for her...) It's kind of ironic since those few ounces have that much more impact on smaller/lighter people. Anyway, I've lost patience for companies that treat us like an afterthought.

Maybe not entirely unrelated to jazzmom's observation: their marketing just kind of rubs me the wrong way. I posted here before about one of their promo videos which showed poor LNT practices and showed them laughing about being poorly prepared for 100% predictable monsoon storm weather. "Ooo, we could have been in danger of hypothermia if we hadn't gotten our new OV tents up right away." Well, who's fault was that? I get a "this is how the big boys/cool kids do it" vibe from them that is off-putting to me. OTOH, I have been known to be overly earnest at times, so..
