My kids are 7 and 9 and adore Joshua Tree. We have spent the past two Spring Breaks in JTNP, camping, rock climbing, hiking and checking out the sites. There were a large amount of wildflowers near the west entrance. Here is a pic from just before you enter the park. This time around we climbed routes on Trashcan Rock, Lizard's Hangout and Intersection Rock. My 7yo is becoming a very good climber. We stayed in Black Rock Canyon campground which is roughly 20 minutes from the west entrance. The first few days had perfect weather with temps in the low 80s. On Wednesday night we got hit with a massive windstorm. This also happened when we were there last year and I had some doubts about whether our tent would withstand the massive, unrelenting winds this time around, but everything worked out fine. We did the Keys Ranch tour for the first time and that was pretty cool. It is impressive how they have mostly kept the property the same as it was when Bill Keys lived there. It gives you a pretty good insight into what homesteading was like. Needless to say Bill Keys was quite a character.

Great photo. Missed the full bloom as we were there in March. Got hit with some heavy wind as well. Hope to post a TR soon.

I can see why they love it there - great hiking, climbing and scenery. And what a cool experience checking out Keys Ranch, thanks for sharing the details. Homesteading life must have been so different back then. Glad your tent weathered the windstorm alright again too. Looks like a beautiful spot to explore and make great family memories.
