I tried buying one several months back. Unfortunately, Montbell was sold out in my size. Anyone here have this model? If so, how do you like it? Super lightweight at 8.4 ounces. THX. www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?p_id=2301257Regards, DR

I can't speak personally about this jacket but from what I've read and watched its a very good jacket and people who have it love it.

That is an absurdly light jacket!! I have an alpine light and I get worried about any sort of briers or underbrush coming close to it. I can't even imagine the anxiety i'd have wearing an even thinner $500 version!

Hopefully I will get a nice discount (30% off) on it. Regards, DR

Yes the fabric does seem a little delicate. I only wear my alpine light around camp at night for the most part. I also have and really like the alpine light vest. You might try feathered friends. I was in the store last summer and was surprised at how much montbell clothing they had in stock. You could Call and see. I can’t rembere which ones they had.

I was shocked they had montbell down products in there store. Hope you find what you are looking for. The two montbell items I own are about as good as you can get for the money IMHO.

Yes, FF carries other manufacturers, too.

FWIW Dan Becker rated it as his favorite jacket. I do not see a scenario where I would be backpacking in temperatures that would warrant that price point, but it does sound like a phenomenal lightweight jacket for winter conditions.

Thx for posting the video! Interesting gear list; it made me check out Outdoor Vitals. Regards, DR

Well, I went ahead and purchased Montbell’s Plasma 1000 Alpine Down Parka. I had been checking their website for it for several months without any luck as it was out-of-stock in my size. Fortunately, two days ago I saw Montbell had gotten one in stock in my size, so I went ahead and purchased one. I’m really looking forward to its arrival on this coming Monday. I didn’t hesitate to purchase it as I had tried twice on two occasions to buy it in the past. Other than my Western Mountaineering bag, it’s the second most expensive piece of gear I have ever purchased. A co-worker of mine actually bought the vest version a day before I did. I think I’ll really enjoy the parka. Montbell use to have a store in the city where I live; it’s too bad they closed it down. I’m also looking forward to posting reviews on its performance.
Happy Trails,
DR

Enjoy the jacket!
my very lightweight down hoody is a ghost whisperer/2. I also looked at the feathered friends eos. ended up going where i could get a better discount. the ultralight shell fabrics do ok with friction/rocks, but they are prone to snags.

It is incredibly light. Nice looking, too. I really like the FF EOS; it unfortunately, is too small in the chest for me. I really wish they did custom fits as I would purchase one. Like WM, FF is made in the USA. Happy Trails, DR

While the Montbell Plasma 1000 Down Parka is a well-made product, it’s definitely a shoulder season jacket at best. I’d almost classify it as a sweater weight jacket if you tend to run cold or get cold easily. For me, when the weather is in the high 40s or low 50s, it’s not warm enough. The jacket has 3.4 ounces of fill (96 grams); it would be great to see Montbell add an additional 25-30 grams of fill to this jacket. The added weight would be negligible compared to the added warmth it would provide. I can’t see getting this jacket without a hood as it would have even less insulation.
Regards,
DR
