I did not know what those extra eyeletts were for. Then I read about the Lace Lock or Heel Lock in a PCTer Journal. Wyoming has other interesting shoe info in his journal entry.

ohm, thanks for this. Last year I was wearing a new pair of trail shoes on my 11 day hike. By about day 6 or so it kinda felt like my whole heel was a blister although I couldn't see it. I chalked it up to walking in wet feet for a couple of days due to all the rain but after watching that I'm thinking that wasn't the problem.

Coolkat The link in the post is to a PCTer Journal (trail) named Wyoming. His entry has some good shoe info.

It is best to bang your heel back in the boot before locking.

Excellent tip. Didn't know this and now that I've switched to lower shoes I'll try this

I wish I had remembered to try this on 5 day trip in the Superstitions a couple of weeks ago. At the end of the 5 days the bottom of my heels felt like they had a 1000 needles poking them. It got worse if I rested and started hiking again. After about 1/4 mile of hiking the sensation would pretty much go away until I stopped for a break again.

Wow thank you for this. I never knew why there were second eyelets. Always wondered why they were there.

It also explains why the laces are so long. Thanks for posting.

There are also many different lacing techniques that can be done. Shoe lacing.

It also explains why the laces are so long. Thanks for posting. It's a marker of how scrawny my feet are that even after I do this, AND double-knot, my laces are so long they practically drag on the ground.
