I'm thinking it might be a decent purchase. I like to use a solar shower for car camping, and will sometimes leave it on the hood of the car at a trailhead, so that it's waiting for me at the end of a backpack. But relatively few trailheads are *that* remote that one can just go full monty and shower and still be a considerate neighbor. Likewise with car camping--sometimes I can find a private enough spot for a solar shower; sometimes not. Really, the only reason I ever spend money on a hotel room or KOA-type campground when hiking/camping (solo) is for the shower.
(People also use them as potty shelters, but I don't imagine I'd ever use it that way. If I'm boondocking, it's going to be somewhere not that close to others.)
I'm thinking this might be one of those gear purchases where Walmart quality is sufficient. REI's cheapest option is a Kelty model that doesn't get particularly good reviews. There's an Ozark Trail (Walmart brand) model that seems like its probably good enough.
Anyone own one?

I've been known to string up a tarp in such a manner as to hide me from view, but the designated shelter may be worth it from an ease to set up standpoint. I already own a 20 ft x 6 ft tarp, so I'm more prone to just use it.

You’re making me remember I need a better solar shower bag. The one I have tends to leak around the cap, though I think mostly when in shower mode (as opposed to when I use the solid cap). My problem is the need for something to hang it from, or else the one-handed “shower.” I usually just wait until after dark for privacy. My other tip: a large kitty-litter bin makes a good pad to stand on—keeps you out of the dirt, and lets the water accumulate to soak the dirt off our feet.

I had an Ozark (WalMart) one for a few years when I was working out in the field and the RV-tenter campground I frequented for as it changed owners and they took the showers offline to construct a new bathhouse. I even fashioned a redwood floor for it that was 30"x30" A close friend glommed on to it for her camper when I helped her install fittings for an external shower on her older Airstream. She hated fogging up her camper for showering. I still have the monster MSR solar shower rig. It get used now as a passive snow melter for winter camping.
