Not for me: I'm a coffee snob in regular life, but am happy with the light weight and convenience of Starbucks Via or similar instant products for BPing. Almost nothing to carry, nothing but some tiny wrappers to pack out, no gear required.
But it's intriguing. I can't say I've ever drank coffee through a straw or that I relish the possibility. But who knows.

I have drunk coffee through a straw. It scalds your mouth unless you wait till it's too cool to be any good, and it robs you of about 90% of the flavor. Otherwise, I guess I agree with "intriguing."

It is intriguing, mainly because it seems like such an obviously terrible idea. Don't think I'll be trying this one.

I hate discovering that the authenticity of my experience is questionable, like when I found I was using the wrong trowel.

I have tried everything and like cweston I opt for the very simple Via packet. It is fast, clean, and simple. I don't begrudge anyone who carries elaborate devices requiring intensive cleaning, but it ain't for me. This devise is essentially cowboy coffee using a straw filter which means the same cleanup mess as cowboy coffee. And not wishing to start a LNT flame-war, but I am vehement that backpackers carry out ALL their garbage, which includes coffee grounds. Rumi

Authentic is drinking it while backpacking/horsepacking/fishing/whatever down there. I have to say that I'm not a big mate fan, however. It's not bad, just not my cup of... tea. An acquired taste, like many things. At least you weren't using the wrong towel, the one that says "Hers".

Ugh, no. I see issues. First and foremost, this means I have to clean my cup of grounds/tea leaves after every use, which is no small thing. Even worse if I don't finish the coffee tea and I have to strain it out. Maybe they're assuming that people will just dump the dregs, which I don't do.

Actually Via has fine grounds in it. They are just fine enough that they don't settle much and you drink them. Via is kind of bitter to me.
My favorite is Waka (wakacoffee.com). A really good cup of instant and not too expensive. I just went to their site and they have added a lot more products.
I don't think I have seen this before but they have a bunch of instant teas. I guessing it is made like their coffees. Freeze dried into a course grain product.

Mt. Hagen instant coffee is by far the best backpacking coffee I've had. Stuff is great.

It’s Via for me. It dissolves quickly and fires up my brains neurons slowly but surely.
