We are looking at taking a day trip to Bryce Canyon while we are visiting Zion in May. I'm curious about which hikes we should consider. We would prefer less crowds & great views. We are moderately fast hikers who can easily cover 12-15 miles per day. Trails I've looked at are the Queens Garden/Navajo loop, the Peekaboo loop, & Fairyland loop. Are there others that would fit the bill for us? Is there any virtue in getting a permit and camping overnight? It seems backcountry camping isn't super popular at Bryce and I'm guessing it's because you can see most of the park in a day or so.

I think your assumption is correct. I've always looked as Bryce as a "Minor" National Park maybe worth a day or so. Other places in southern Utah worth considering are Natural Bridges NM, Grand Staircase/Escalante, Grand Gulch, and one of the most unique backpacks on earth: Buckskin Gulch. Of course the Zion Narrows are also special.

I believe there is a 20 mile point-to-point hike Rainbow Trail? in Bryce. It's an overnighter. Most people that can't spot a car hitch hike back. The road into the park is dead end. There are 3 access points to the road from the trail. Double check.
Capitol Reef might be an option. Upper Muley Twist goes right on top of the Waterpocket Fold with great views of the Henry Mountains. Torrey, UT is a cool little town, the Chuckwagon Motel sounds corny, but it's A-OK. Upper Muley Twist is a day hike, a couple of miles longer if you don't have 4wd. Of course Zions Narrows is the ultimate iconic prize....but Capitol Reef has Hall Creek. Way, way, less of a crowd and it's an overnight or 2 night loop hike. Possible alternative. Just sayin'.

Thanks. I've done the Narrows top down as a day hike before, and also the West Rim trail. We plan to do the Trans Zion Trek and hopefully Subway Canyon on this trip (permits permitting)as well as a day or so in Bryce. I'm thinking a day based on your feedback. That will free up another day for Zion where maybe we can do the Narrows bottom up and some other day hikes. Thanks for the feedback!
