According to the Hancock Campground Website, there are 56 sites and it's first come, first served. My question: Does this site typically fill up early in foliage season (end of September)? Would it be reasonable to expect to find an open site on a Monday afternoon at say, 5PM?

I’ve only stayed at Basin and Cold River where there’s reservable sites. As I’m driving a ways and conservative. It’s quiet on the east side and there’s great farmstand maple syrup! The open all year part is nice. Good info. To the question i can’t help, though I passed by there a couple of times and should have noticed their sign, but didn’t. Sorry. ETA: Otoh I make a spring visit most years and I’ll try and remember to check it out. Fall happens there as well.

I'd call the local ranger for their input.
