About stink: I'm actually surprised how little I notice the stink from myself or my hiking partners (even when we share a tent) on multi-day trips. Maybe it's mind over matter, but other than the nether regions (which are mercifully covered most of the time) I rarely notice much stink at all. I have had to throw out some synthetic garments before they actually wore out, because they had just accumulated enough funk over multiple trips that they no longer ever smelled clean, though.

Getting dropped off at North Fork and coming out at Whiskey Bend on the long trip. But yes, we are taking our boys (17 & 15) to Enchanted Valley over Anderson Pass end of June/beg of July now both ends Graves Creek Road & Dose are currently washed out. I went up the Dose in 1995. Wonderful experience. I'd plan for some spare days as Anderson has its own ideas about weather. If you got a pump filter put a coffee filter over the intake and bring a spare pump filter or two. The milky water from the Dose contains tiny rock bits that will wear out a filter. The grit wears against the walls of the filter. I have a bit of envy. I'd bring lightweight and heavy weight base layers for that hike. The REI-COOP Long sleeved t-shirts will work for a light weight shirt. I hiked most of the Dose in lightweight top rain jacket, shorts, gaiters, expedition weight socks. Wear the heavy weight layers at night. We got snowed on in early Aug. at Dose Medows. There are many areas under the larger trees that remain dry where cloths can be hung to dry. Exffico makes some good underwear.

We wanted to see the Chalet before it succumbed to the river in case they didn't move it (which they were able to later that year). We wanted to take the boys last summer but camping was closed in the valley from bears.

We wanted to take the boys last summer but camping was closed in the valley from bears. We tended to camp away from the Dose to reduce bear encounters, We only had 2 bear encounters. See my previous post, I added a bit more to the post. Sawyer water filters, bring the back flush plunger, is my recomendation for water filters. Adding the preilter modification will get a bit more milage between back flushes.

I'll be out on NFLD later this year. Plenty of rain and potential low temperatures. I'm packing...
Three pairs o' socks. Three pairs o' lightweight sporty undies. Two insulated tops: one fer hikin', one fer sleepin'. Or two atta time fer extra warmth. One set o' lightweight wickin' baselayer fer hikin'. One pair o' lightweight hikin' pants. One set o' heavyweight wool baselayer fer sleepin'. One set of lightweight rain gear fer when she rains.
I'm planning a wee bit extra fer sleepin' because I'm considering usin' just my fleece liner instead of a big ol' sleepin' bag.

Since I switched to wool base layers 2 set of clothes works, the poly gets too stinky, on me anyhow.

What soap to use in stream? NONE NONE NONE. For Pete's sake! If using soap (a tiny bit) dump the soapy water well away from water sources. Dump the rinsate well away from water source. For silty water, use the MSR Siltstopper prefilter. Way better than a bandana or coffee filter. Review of MSR Siltstopper.

Mike and I will probably be stopping at Goose Bay, Newfoundland on April 18th. It won't be for long but I will wave at you...
