Im going to do Rae Lakes 42 mile loop. My wife is interested but unfortunately has a funky anke from some pas trauma. Dont think she could do the loop. I know you can approack Rae Lakes via Inion and Kearsarge. Are there any other known routes that might be shorter and less aggressive? Not as much a fan of the out and backs so wondering if there are any loops Im not seeing via JMT or other. Had a local airport say they could fly her up to Lower Paradise Valley ;^)

Iirc a traditional start is from Wood's Creek trailhead, very popular trailhead, and Obtw: SeKi has restarted its wilderness permit applications: six months out… The loop itself contains the biggest pass: Glen at 11,978'. Bubbs Creek trail is steep as I recall, I did it one Thanksgiving, in the snow in the way out, navigation with no trail was tricky. And a lesson learned: maps work. Fly into Lower Paradise Valley? There’s zero way any aircraft is permitted to land within the national park wilderness; so there’s some sort of miscommunication. You can’t even fly/land a drone in the park let alone a passenger aircraft. www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/rae-lakes-loop.htmFWIW; not a recommendation just completeness; JMT? The quickest east side might be Symmes creek road end : up over Shepherds Pass and down to the JMT near Lake South America then north over Forester and onward on the JMT ( though I’m doing this with no maps.) but if there’s a more aggressive lung buster I’m unaware of it. And I think washouts have the Forest service kind of writing off the Shepherds Pass trail: it crosses a lot of talus steep slopes and suffered a lot of damage some years back. A shame as it offers a fast route into the Upper Kern, really fine country You’re going to need them anyway so I’d suggest getting the big Sequoia Kings Canyon national parks trails illustrated map and see if a feasible alternate route pops out. Given when Glen will be passable you’ve got a bit of time to sort it out. A plan B might be to utilize the packer services that HQ at Onion Valley to somewhat ease her Kearsarge Pass approach . And/or Mt Williamson Motel & Basecamp. From that side it is, of course, an Inyo NF wilderness permit www.mtwilliamsonmotel.com/
