The trail was named for William Wallace Bass, trail builder, settler, miner and promoter. In 1884 he built a rimside cabin and camp at Havasupai Point. Visitors included Zane Grey, Thomas Moran, John Muir and Henry Ford. The North Bass trail from Swamp Point on the North Rim to the river is a 13-mile potpourri of trail, paths, creek bottoms and narrows with an overdose of bushwhacking. North Bass Trail has a well-deserved reputation as one of the more difficult and demanding canyon trails. The (8) eight-mile non-maintained access road is AWD, high clearance, reached by a collection of maintained forest service roads in the North Kaibab National Forest. Weather was perfect Grand Canyon October, mid-60's on the rim and 80's by the river.

Muav Saddle at the top of the Coconino.

Topping out at Swamp Point. Looking west are Steamboat Mountain, Saddle Canyon and the Esplanade! Unexpectedly had decent cellular service here. Crazy!
