I thought this was a joke when it showed up on my FB feed: link. But heck, it's really not a terrible idea, though I'm not willing to carry trekking poles quite that heavy. For now I'll stick with my Locus Gear cp3s and Katadyn BeFree.

Nope. When I inevitably break my trekking poles, I still want clean water.

Yes, 19.5 oz for the one pole is iffy. Plus for anyone that prefers two poles the asymmetry of having different weight for each side would have to be odd: and no way would two of those make sense.

That would be a very heavy pole, indeed. And I’m thinking about all the things the ends of my poles get stuck into… I’m not sure I want to start the filtration process with that.

I thought this was a joke when it showed up on my FB feed … That pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? There isn’t an emoji with a sufficient combination of shock and dismay to respond to this.

Her sitting on a log drinking water looked nice, some do hike with just one pole. If you could just take a sip as you cross a creek might be ok, with out the hassle of putting it all together. (I do that on many hikes, like above the Rogue River in winter, lots of streams pouring in)
Still I like a water bottle filter much more, just dip and go, pour out what you dont want, a bit later.
attaching all the tubes, pumping etc. not for me. I convert to a gravity filter in camp.
Except some light wt. poles I have not had mine break (dont use the light wt ones anymore, broke both on a BP and was using them to put up tent) . One on snow, the other in the tent.

My reaction is "Why?" I don't see any advantage. It's not truly dual-use since the one pole is no lighter than a regular pole + a lightweight hollow-tube filter (e.g., Sawyer). And $140 for a single pole! Plus for anyone that prefers two poles the asymmetry of having different weight for each side would have to be odd: and no way would two of those make sense. Oh, if you buy the pair, they even make the second non-filter one super heavy to match. Besides, I don't treat my poles well enough. What happens if you stick it in mud/gross water/scat beyond the intake port?

This seems to me a product of our current economy. It is pretty easy now to produce an engineering drawing then get a bid from a small run production company and for relatively little money produce your product. With Kickstarter like sites you don't even have to go that far to get going.
The next part is a website with international shipping. Out of eight billion people in the world some will buy it. You never know. It might be really popular in places where there are crocodiles. You don't have to get so close to the water to filter. But it could be a bust but all you lose is a small seed money.
If anyone wants my personal opinion this product is definitely something I don't want. I abuse my poles and cherish my filter. Without clean water I could be in real trouble

Hello, and thank you for commenting on PURTREK Trek Pole Water Filtration System. Good or bad feedback we know is vital and helps us communicate and relieve concerns from a new gear combination. We would love for you to explore this more as we become more well-known. I am the founder and wanted to provide a bit of clarity on our products. We worked tirelessly to perfect design, test, and improve in the Utah backcountry. Like many innovations, they take time and use to prove benefits and quality. I can assure you we have given very close attention to details and functionality. PurTrek does add increased weight with a filtration system, but we have hundreds of miles on the poles and thousands of liters of water filtration on the pump. It has a protested two-stage filtration system with a cover over the water inlet area 4 inches off the ground. This first filter handles large particulates and then moves through a food-safe internal pump system to the .2 Micron Hollow Fiber filter. Water is expelled through the attached drinking tube to fill the vessel or drink directly. This filtration pump can handle over 250 pounds of pressure while still being lightweight and pumps over 2 liters per minute for a 2000 liter life. PurTrek WebsiteTo answer a comment - If you happen to break poles, the filtration pump is designed to still work efficiently by submerging the broken end. A considerable benefit of PurTrek's innovative design is not removing gear and filtering water in seconds in ample amounts while standing up. This 2-in-1 combo allows to hydrate with less effort and faster. Please visit the website for more information. We continue to work hard telling our story and delivering education that helps more people get out and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Thank you for taking the time to understand a new US Outdoor Gear Company's way into the market. Warm Regards,

PurTrek welcome and thank for the info. I have some questions like can you change the twist in the straps so the filter can be used in either the right or left hand? Would this be a good place to ask or is your website better?

Did they ever respond to you? Nothing private and nothing here. I haven't gone to their website to ask. I recently upgraded to Black Diamond Ergo's from and old pair of three section Leki's. The lighter poles are a definite plus. My two BD poles weigh 18 oz. Their one filter pole weighs 19 oz. Their pole is a specialty app and I don't have a need so I am not going to pursue this.
