Does anyone know of a website/resource to do gear swaps? I ask because I have a Patagonia R2 pullover that's too big for me. It's in GREAT shape, in fact I haven't worn it in years. I've lost weight since I purchased it. I think I wore it maybe twice since purchasing it. I went on a winter trip recently and pulled it out to wear and realized it's too big.
I'd love to swap it out for something in my size, doesn't have to be the exact same product, just something that would work for me.
Does anyone know of a website or company that might help with this? Thanks all.

If it were purchased from REI that might be outside it's changed warranty window and you could return it for the correct size?

Can't remember where I purchased it. Don't think it was REI. I was able to do what you suggested a few years ago with a Marmot Precip jacket. REI took back the large and sent me a medium. Given their change in return policy, I don't think they would be willing to do that now even if I did purchase the R2 from them.

IIRC they did grandfather in items purchased before they changed their policy. Though the detail is I don't remember WHEN they changed their policy....
Just that "haven't worn it in years" offered the possibility it was still grandfathered (if, in fact, they did that).

It's worth a try. I'll contact them to see if they have a record of the purchase. Thanks for the suggestion!

Backpackinglight.com, Whiteblaze.net, and Trailspace.com all have "gear swap" sub-forums. There has even been talk about whether or not someone can sell on here. Kinda hard to unload something on any of these sites, though, if you don't have established credibility there...

talk about whether or not someone can sell on here Talk? It does happen here. Established creds? That's all about post count and past participation, and just plain building a reputation (street creds). Beware the first-time posting offering some great item at some great price! But established members can and do offer items, and sell them. People can clean a closet and offer some items.

Yes, it does happen, but there was a recent thread discussing specifically whether or not it should be. There isn't a specific sub-forum here just for classifieds.
And by "established credibility" that is just what I meant -- people will be leery to send money to a brand new poster that nobody knows yet.

hammock forums has a very active For Sale subforum. there is a minimum post count before you can post in there and specific rules about doing junk posts to hike up your count.

There isn't a specific sub-forum here just for classifieds. Not an accident! There is no official sub-forum because Backpacker is not in th business of selling gear. If established forum users want to do some deals in a friendly way, it is up to other members to decide when or if to work things out. Of course there is no fee to do this. It's a favor to forum users.

Thanks for the additional information. I'll take a look at those other sites. I'm not looking to sell it, just trade it for something. It would be nice if we had some sort of gear swap forum. The proverbial "one man's trash is another man's treasure" really could apply to backpacking gear.
I've been backpacking for 20+ years and have a pretty good collection of gear. Some I use frequently, some not so much and some not at all. It would be nice for the gear that's laying around to get into the hands of someone who will use it.
I'd prefer to trade rather than sell. Selling seems impersonal but trading seems more enjoyable, especially among fellow backpackers.
Just a thought...

BPL's gear swap forum is usually pretty lively, mostly selling/buying but swaps have happened. You do have to be a paying forum member to participate.

Geartrade.com is a site for buying and selling all kinds of clothing and other hiking/outdoor gear. I've purchased things through the site and have had absolutely no problems. I see where you would prefer to swap and this may be available through the site as well although I haven't tried this personally.
