I received this as a Christmas present from my youngest son. Pretty good read overall although a few parts bothered me. It's basically a history of the FS and how it evolved into what it is today. While Peters obviously loves our natonal forests, he was in pubic comnications for the forest sevice and I felt it colored his perceptions and observations somewhat. I feel he's a little bit too apologetic, maybe defensive, in a polite way though, for what I consider some of the forest services's questionable practices in the past or even today, i. e. road building, grazing permits, clear cuts, and general multiple use ("abuse") practices. Still, I found it interesting and worth the read. Give it a look see/read.
