On the coldest day of the year we hiked to see the frozen splendor of Somer Brook Falls. The falls were impressive, as were the spruce forests. The falls are about 80 feet tall in a grotto of fractured cliffs. To cross the Mehoopany Creek, we scooted across on a log with our rear-ends. The weather was frigid, but I kept surprisingly comfortable. Somer Brook is a beautiful place with a gorge, pools, rapids, and big boulders, it was great to return.
