Yesterday, I visited the Trout Pond Recreation Area, in George Washington National Forest. My hope was to finally - we’ve been having a late autumn color show - catch some nice fall colors reflected in Rockcliff Lake. I spent a happy hour or so at the lake taking pictures, until a strong wind picked up and began to rumple up the lake surface and photography became difficult. So, I hiked up to one of the ridges of North Mountain, then traded that for Long Mountain, before making my way back down to the lake. On the descent I walked past the interesting Cliff Rock; this was an impressive rock fin 80ft tall, which was beyond my ability to scale. Hiking/photography stats: 10.2mi, 1750ft gain, 6.5hrsPhotos A passage through Cliff Rock Hmmm, how do I get up that?
