I'll admit it... I love spam. I'm content to just fry it up and eat it plain though I've been hunting around to find some culinary gems.
I have stumbled upon "Spam Musubi" which is apparently the deal in Hawaii (my Hawaiian friends never mentioned this!) -pretty much sushi with spam;) Itching to try it out soon -will use instant rice, a little rice wine vinegar and roll it inside nori maki style instead of nigiri.
Any one have a favorite dish with Spam or have one in mind to try?

Car camping. grits with chunks of spam, eggs over easy, and coffee.
Backpacking lunch, a spam single in between two bagel halves. no cook.
Backpacking dinner, Tasty Bites with rice and a spam single.
Backpacking lunch, a peanut chocolate chip Pro Bar and a spam single, no cook.
Boil some eggs at home. A boiled egg or 2 and spam single for a no cook backpack lunch.

I like SPAM, but I will caution you to eat it before it is 5 years past the expiration date. Been there, done that. Nearly didn't have time to drop trou, much less the pack.
Spam single, hot sauce, thinwich. No cook lunch. Spam single, rice, soy sauce, sriracha = dinner Spam single, instant grits = breakfast.
Want a no cook breakfast? Cook your rice the night before and place it in a zip lock. add Spam single the next morning, and you have something close to Spam musubi. (I never did like that wrapper anyway)
This is how I had it in Honolulu

The pre-packaged single Spam slice slathered with Guldens Spicy Brown Mustard works for me.

Dice up SPAM into 1/2 inch cubes. Dice up taters into 1/2 inch cubes. Mix up SPAM and taters in a frying pan. Sprinkle on some Club House Spicy Pepper Medley, to taste. Cover pan. Fry on med-low heat. Stir every couple minutes. Cook for 12-15 minutes, or until taters are cooked and SPAM is browned. Shovel onto a plate, or into bowl. Shovel into mouth. Make nom-nom-nom noises. Dream about making it again, and again; because it is tasty, and easy... and tasty.
Eat more SPAM. Eat IT!!!

I used to add fried and diced cubes of a single-pack Spam Lite to a potato and corn based entree by the now defunct Enertia Trail Foods (they're coming back this Spring, though, I hear). The combo was always quite tasty. Last week, diced Spam Teriyaki with white rice, green peas and mushrooms made for a quick, off-the-cuff, mid-week meal that my daughters and I enjoyed.

Does spam travel well? What do you do with the greasy container after its been emptied? It seems that it would take up too much space in a bear cannister.

paula53 Spam SinglesSPAM Singles travel well. The SPAM singles empty packets compact nicely in the garbage bags. We also use the empty spam singles packages for putting broken glass into that we find on the trail.
