Tonight I met with 6 young ladies from DeSales University in Allentown who will be hiking with me this weekend with Narrow Path. We will only do a short, 1 night introductory hike. 6 miles on Saturday to a camp, learning to set up tents, bear bags, etc, and then 7 miles out Sunday. Tonight was equipment hand out, trail etiquette, reviewing the map, LNT, safety, etc, etc, etc. These girls were awesome. One did an overnight (with me previously), 3 others have done some day hiking, but all are crazy excited to go on this. They ended the night asking more about future hikes they want to plan and haven't even started this trek. I'll make sure that I post an update after this trek. The weather is supposed to be perfect so I'm really looking forward to this. Just wanted to keep some of you posted!

You might want to consider not using ladies and girls and favor describing them as women. Sorry to be sort PC police but generally college aged women usually don't like that.

Yes, even Young Women works better than Girls.
I hope all of you have a grand time! You should be able to load some of your gear into their packs, being younger than you and faster recovery.

What a great trip! It was short, only about 6 miles in on Saturday, about 7.5 on the way out. They were amazing. They listened intently and learned. Rarely needing reminders (other than using the stove) they acted more like folks who had done a trip or two already. Four of the six were asking for longer treks with another overnight added before we even went to bed on Saturday. It was really refreshing for me. Honestly, not all of my treks this year went off so well. Some folks have been really hard on the gear, have been complainers, have lost gear...this group was so solid. They took LNT seriously and generally appreciated nature in a way that made me extremely happy.

Great! I'm happy for some next-generation backpackers.
