Simply highlight the text you wish to quote and a "quick quote" box will appear next to the highlighted material. Just click on that and it will start a posting at the bottom of the page for you.
Your reply will show who said what, the point is made so others can follow the conversation even if other posts have been added in between the original comment and your reply.

If you are using a tablet or mobile device, you may be able only to quote the entire post. Click on the little gear thingie in the upper right, choose "select post," then hit "reply" (not Quick Reply) and you'll see the quoted post.

Amplifying on rebeccad 's post above ... Hope I'm not violating any rules here ... Please ignore any irrelevant details. I have no idea what kind of device you're on or how exactly you personally "quote" an entire post (I'm not complaining, just trying to be helpful!), but if you do this:and then click the "Reply" button. You get this somewhat cleaner version of an entire post. Not complaining - and I thought about putting this in a "private message", but a lot of us have small problems dealing with this - apparently - just from my own observation. :^) Added for clarification and context: Okay, but most of the time you and I don't really need to quote the entire post, so then what you (or I) should do is the following - in fact, this is the best way to quote only that to which you wish to reply! And then, after you click "Quick Quote", the "clipped" part of the post appears in the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of the window. I hope I've helped and not further confused this topic. I know it's been discussed thoroughly before.

The second approach--to select text and click "quick quote" doesn't seem to work on the iPad--it simply won't allow me to select a portion of the post. But--you can ALWAYS delete stuff when you've quoted the whole message. So even if you follow the first set of gabby's instructions, you can then highlight and delete irrelevant stuff in composition mode. More of us (me included) should take the 2 seconds extra effort to do that
