Greetings, I really enjoy listening to radio—-especially radio stations that are eclectic and play a wide variety of tunes. KQRZ is one of my favorites. Not only do they have a varied playlist, it’s actually a Ham radio station. No commercials, diverse playlists, some unique genre-specific programs. C’mon over and take a listen and look at their playlist... www.kqrz.orgAnd if you have a radio station recommendation for me, please share it. I’m always in the mood to hear something new. Thx. Regards, DR

Sounds a lot like Tucson's non-affiliated community radio station KXCI.org On the air since 1983. It's also eclectic with shows like Barrio Sounds and The Bluegrass Show (on the air since 1984). I'll listen to yours if you give KXCI a try. Being completely independent give the Station total control of programming.

it’s actually a Ham radio station. That must be one well organized and funded ham club.

WFUV-Fordham University’s Voice. 90.7. Commercial free “CityFolk”. Very current, eclectic mix.

We have pretty terrible FM radio options here in Chicago. Music stations very formulaic and pop-driven, regardless if hip-hop/rap, house, classic rock, lite, etc. Even WXRT seems predictable nowadays.

I basically listen only to various college stations. Most likely KSPC, WUVT, or KUOM. I should eventually re-check out the Chicago area stations WHPK and WNUR.

I was going to mention WNCW. I always enjoy going over the mountain on Saturday. Good bluegrass. As Sherpa said they play a little bit of everything.

And for jazz-WBGO out of Newark. Thx. I’ll definitely give it a listen. I’m a big WZUM fan; it’s the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel. They’re also the biggest provider of jazz to many NPR stations (Jazz Wyoming is one example). Regards, DR

KBON in Lafayette LA. Mostly cajun music, with some others thrown in (creole, etc.). I think it's on Sundays when they do a show totally in cajun. Not english, not french, but cajun. Good luck with that. WRNR (Rock N Roll) in Annapolis MD. My hometown eclectic station, which has been other stations/call signs in the past, notably WHFS (High Fidelity Stereo; yeah, it goes back a ways) over the years. There's a whole long story with the Epsteins, the great Damian Einstein, the gone but not forgotten HFStivals, etc., et al.
And a long time ago Towson University (Towson State College at the time) had a station under a call sign which I don't remember. It's now WTMD (Towson Makes a Difference), but it was something else back then. Some students worked there as part of their undergraduate or graduate degrees. The reason I mention this one is not only because it's still going, but because there was a great a great show on Saturday nights in the 70s. The Octave Doctor and someone else used to play some really great tripped out electronic music which I never heard anywhere else either then or now.
I miss the Octave Doctor.
WRNR and WTMD are sufficiently eclectic but similar that they've traded DJs from time to time. Neither one is high powered, so you have to be within range or have a good receiver to hear them. Thankfully, we now have streaming over the internet.

it’s actually a Ham radio station. It is a commercial radio license so it is just like any other FM station. Its just that a "HAM" club owns and operates it. Sorry as a ham I know it is a big no-no to play any music on an amateur band. I can't even have music/radio in the background when talking on the amateur bands in the car.
